Bright Series: Country GongBang

South Korean bluegrass band, Country GongBang, demonstrates that bluegrass music is embraced in places outside the US. Winners of the 2023 IBMA International Band Performance Grant, the quintet plays contemporary bluegrass with a Korean twist, singing in both English and Korean. Their name means “country atelier,” and is also inspired by a popular Korean trend of filming students practicing music or studying. They’ve gained international fans through YouTube and other online platforms and have played at IBMA World of Bluegrass, as well as festivals in France and Japan.
